Child-Friendly Activities for the Winter Weather
Let’s face it – kids love to run around and play outside! However, during the winter months, that proves to be difficult. So, what can you do with your kids when they need something to do and you don’t want them running around outside in the cold? We have a list of some great places to take kids on winter field trips around Omaha!
Always a classic, the Omaha Children’s Museum is perfect for taking your little ones on a day trip. They offer exhibits old and new and always have a mixture of educational, silly and fun things for your child to do!
Joslyn Art Museum
Introduce a day of culture and art to your little ones with a trip to the Joslyn Art Museum. They have permanent exhibits you can tour for free, or take advantage of classes for kids like Crazy for Clay or Feathers & Fur.
Kids can see what life was like in Nebraska years ago by touring a rawhide teepee or a replica earth lodge at the Durham Museum. Check out a 1940s English Tudor-Revival home in Dundee and even walk through a real train inside the museum!
Sky Zone & Defy Gravity
Got kids with tons of extra energy running around your house? Let them wear themselves out by taking them to either Sky Zone or Defy Gravity where they can jump on giant trampolines and foam.
Another place to get your kids active is PE 101. Here they can run, jump and play in this interactive gym made for kids. This is perfect for a cold and snowy day this winter!
Let’s keep the energy up with our next idea – Bounce U! This place is perfect for high-energy kids with their awesome inflatables, fantastic games and wall-to-wall fun!
DO Space is a great place in Omaha for people of all ages to go, explore and learn. They have educational Tech Kits available inside that are perfect for kids to explore technology and learn new skills.
Omaha Public Library
A great resource that people tend to forget about easily is the Omaha Public Library. Omaha has a wonderful library that is great for kids and adults. Check their calendar for story times and activities, or just go to the library and choose a bunch of books for your kids to read.
For the LEGO® lover in your life, you need to check out the Nature Connects: Art with LEGO® Bricks exhibit at our local Lauritzen Gardens! This exhibit features huge nature-inspired sculptures entirely made out of LEGO® bricks – it’s open through May 15th – so hurry!
Henry Doorly Zoo
You might think the zoo is only good for the warmer months, but there are lots of indoor activities for you and your kids to check out! The Henry Doorly Zoo has the Desert Dome, the aquarium and the Lied Jungle – all which are perfect for cold days!
